In this post, we will demonstrate the process taken to complete a 1960 Cadillac Convertible 390 Carburetor Spacer Plate fabrication.
What do you do if your stock intake manifold has an exhaust cross over that pipes exhaust directly under your carburetor and you don’t have the factory carb spacer or plate. Well we used the gasket as a pattern and made our own. This plate is very important because it will help protects the carburetor from the exhaust gasses and heat which will help increase the longevity of the carb. Here is how we did it.
We pulled the carburetor gasket off and used it as the template for our spacer.
We traced the gasket on to a piece of 16 gauge sheet metal.
We attached the sheet metal to a block of wood with screws so we could use the mill to cut out all the holes. We used a high quality hole saws to cut the big holes.
After cutting out the holes we cut the piece out of the sheet metal using an air body saw
The finished product.
Here is is installed, hard to notice that it is even there. This spacer is very important and should not be left out. The exhaust gases will eat away the bottom of the carburetor and eventually ruing the bottom of the carb and the gasket causing a big vacuum leak.
