1967 Mustang Fastback Differential

In this post, we will demonstrate the process taken to complete the 1967 Mustang Fastback Differential repair.

1967 Mustang Fastback Differential

Here is the differential before it was taken apart.  We documented everything so that we have reference photos for assembly.  Photos save time and money!

It is hard to remember exactly how the brakes and springs go together so a photo is priceless.

The wear pattern on the lower portion of the differential gears is not “Ideal” so we are going to have to decide whether to run them or rebuild them.  David Chun says run it but I am not so sure.  Do you remember if they made any noise?

We sandblasted all of the components for the rear suspension and differential.  This was a simple task to complete.

Brakes and baking plates and spring plates. Sandblasted and ready for paint.

Rear housing read for paint.

Rear brake drums and backing plates after chassis black paint now the drums need to be turned.

Rear axle housing ready for assembly.  I have ordered the rear brake parts as well as new axle bearings and seals.  I have not ordered anything for the main gears as we need to discuss options.
